SCOTTSDALE,
Ariz. – The Arizona Medical Board
announced Timothy C. Miller as its new Executive
Director. “Mr. Miller brings to the Board great
experience as a prior regulator and administrator
with the Arizona Department of Health Services and
the Arizona Attorney General’s office,” said
the Board’s Chair Edward J. Schwager, M.D.
Mr. Miller is a nine-year lawyer with extensive
experience in health law and agency regulatory law.
He holds a BA in philosophy and law degree from the
University of Missouri. Mr. Miller has worked to
help victims of domestic violence obtain orders of
protection and find housing.
As the Chief of Bureau for Consumer Rights within
the Division of Behavioral Health Services at the
Arizona Department of Health Services, Mr. Miller
oversaw the protection of the legal and treatment
rights of consumers deemed to have a serious mental
illness within the publicly funded behavioral health
system. Prior to this, Mr. Miller was an Assistant
Attorney General with the State of Arizona. He has
also been involved in drafting legislation, rules,
and policies affecting health care services.
The
Arizona Medical Board is known nation-wide for
the tough disciplinary actions it takes against
physicians who violate the Medical Practice Act.
Public Citizen’s
Health Research Group ranked the Arizona Medical
Board fourth for actions taken over the last calendar
year. They ranked the Board first in the nation for
serious disciplinary actions taken over a three-year
average.
Mr. Miller
will assume his role of Executive Director on December
13, 2004. His responsibilities also include acting
as the Executive Director for the Arizona Regulatory
Board of Physician Assistants.
